Dog Training F.A.Q.

What obedience classes do you offer?

We offer Puppy Kindergarten classes for puppies ages 9 weeks to 5 months, Dog Obedience for adult dogs 5 and a half months and older.

How much are the classes?

Puppy Kindergarten is $80 for the course and Dog Obedience is $120.

We do not charge tax for classes and you must pay on or before the first day of class.

Do I have to be there with my dog?

Yes, you absolutely must be present with your dog throughout the course. Obedience courses are centered around strengthening the communication between you and your pet.

Does my dog need to be vaccinated?

We require a Bordetella, Distemper/Parvo, and Rabies vaccine. We do also require all vaccinations and exams be given by a Veterinarian. We do not accept home vaccinations, hand written vaccination records or tieter test in lieu of vaccinations. We can call your veterinarian to update your pets vaccinations at any time!

When and where are the classes held?

Classes are held at Suite Life Pet Resort and Spa down by the ice/water machine.

How long are the courses?

Puppy Kindergarten lasts for 6 weeks and Dog Obedience lasts for 8 weeks. Each class meets once a week for one hour.

Who teaches the classes?

Jessica Smith of Smart Paws Dog Obedience & Canine Training. She has been professionally training dogs since 1999. She has extensive experience training AKC agility dogs, rescue animals and therapy dogs for the Reading with Rover program. She has taught internationally on US military installations and is widely known for her quality and exuberance in training animals.

What will the dogs learn?

Our dog training courses are primarily designed to train you, the owner, more so than your dog. We provide hands on, one-on-one demonstrations so that you can better control your pet and teach them commands. You will learn how to teach your dog to Sit, Down, Come when called, walk well on a leash as well as other household manners. Any behavioral issues such as digging, house training, barking, jumping up on people etc. will be addressed in class as well. Your dog will learn to pay attention to you and ignore all other distractions. All of this will be accomplished using only positive reinforcement, meaning no pain or punishment for you or your dog.

How do I sign up for a course?

Class sizes are limited per course so we ask that you call and reserve your spot ASAP. We require that you be a registered owner with Suite Life Pet Resort so that your dog's vaccines are properly verified and input into our computer system. If you haven't already signed up, you can do so for free here. Once you are registered, call our phone number during business hours to register for an obedience class. (325) 704-5460
